Third prize in the competition Designers' Nest was awarded to Sissel Kärneskog who currently studies her second year at the Fashion program.
Debut collection in fierce competition
Sissel competed with her debut collection s.k. / 86-∞ (forever) which was first shown at Beckmans' In Flux show in November. The collection was assessed by four criteria: creativity, innovation, originality and commercial potential in competition with collections from other Nordic design colleges.
International jury
The jury consisted of Sara Maino, Senior Editor Italian Vogue and Vogue Talents, Riccardo Baldo, dean at The European Institute of Design, Marisole Pastori, Senior Consultant at Eyes on Talent, Ane Lynge-Jorlén, Fashion Researcher, Curator and Chairman of the Designers’ Nest jury, and Hitoshi Tajima, Vice Chancellor of UEDA College of Fashion.
– I was very surprised to be awarded third prize as all of the collections were very good, but I'm obviously super happy! My attitude to go was to get a learning experience, see how the compeition is done and to see what the other schools create. But I got to experience an atmospheric day with wonderful creations, fantastic people and a place in the final. I got so much more than I expected, says Sissel.
Successful debut collection
Sissel Kärneskog's collection was widely reported on after the fashion show at Beckmans in the fall, Bon Magazine for example appointed her as one of those who will change the world in 2017. Her collection is a self-portrait that plays with the garment's identity and examines how heteronormativity has affected her as a person. The collection is throughout characterized by experiments with patchwork and 3D digital prints.
