”If Willy Wonka Was a Designer” — design seminar about space exploration, hyper-intelligent robots, speculative design and non-commercial objects, open to all design students in Stockholm.

International guest speakers

Meet three international creative super brains: Nelly Ben Hayoun, James Auger and Ela Celary. In 2013, Icon Magazine nominated Nelly Ben Hayon as one of the 50 international designers “shaping the future”. She works with NASA and is the Creative Director of We Transfer. James Auger is a designer, researcher and former lecturer the Royal College of Art in London, whose work examines the social, cultural and personal impact of technology and the products that exist as a result of its development and application. He runs the speculative design practice Auger-Loizeau. Ela Celary is an experimental media designer who searches for human emotions within the field of artificial intelligence.

Collaboration with the National Museum

The seminar is organised in conjunction to the exhibition Domestic Futures (Hemma
i Framtiden) that is currently on show at the National Museum in Stockholm. The exhibition imagines possible future scenarios of everyday life at home and shows future household products that are based on major advances in technology, discoveries made through scientific research, and the rise of certain social mindsets. Divided into three different themes, these objects propose three scenarios: Are we going to break free from consumerism? Will we embrace new technologies? Or are we adventurously choosing to live on other planets?

The seminar is moderated by Lisanne Fransen, curator of the exhibition Domestic Futures.
